Sharon McDaniel is the founder and CEO of A Second Chance, Inc. – a kinship care agency. Dr. McDaniel has more than 30-years of experience as a nationally recognized child welfare leader. She was appointed to the Casey Family Programs Board of Trustee where she serves as Treasurer. Casey Family Program is the nation’s leading foundation with an exclusive focus on children in foster care. She is also a Trustee of the Jim Casey Youth Opportunity Initiative, another leading national voice in child welfare. She was also an Advisory Board member for Annie E. Casey’s/ Casey Family Services. Other appointments include panel member for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Advisory Kinship Panel and an advisor to the Children’s Defense Fund. She continues to serve as a long-term board member of the Black Administrators in Child Welfare where she serves as board President. She also serves on the Allegheny County Children’s Cabinet, the State of Pennsylvania’s Quality Review Team, a board member of the Chuck Cooper Foundation (the first African American drafted by the NBA), and is a partner with Child Focus, Inc. in their joint partnership, KinSolutions, Inc. Dr. McDaniel has received numerous national and local awards including, but not limited to, Congressional Coalition on Adoption’s Angel in Adoption Award, Black Administrator of the Year award by the Black Administrators in Child Welfare, 40 most Influential African American Women in Pittsburgh by the Pittsburgh Courier, and other noted awards. When not traveling, she lives and works in her native Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
